Elon Musk wants to cut Tesla’s workforce by 3.5%

The boss of Tesla has announced that he wants to reduce the company’s salaried workforce by 10%, or 3.5% of the total workforce.

Tesla is cutting its workforce. Elon Musk, who had said two weeks earlier that he wanted to reduce the company’s workforce by around 10%, clarified his intentions during an event organized in Qatar by Bloomberg. According to the American billionaire, this 10% reduction will only concern Tesla employees, which means a 3.5% drop in the total workforce of the electric car manufacturer, reports Reuters.

A reduction described as “not super important” by Elon Musk. In an email sent on June 2 to the executives of his companies, the American leader claimed to have “a very bad feeling” about the outlook for the economy and had also announced a suspension of all recruitment on a global scale. Tesla and its subsidiaries employed just over 100,000 people at the end of last year, two-thirds of whom were employees.

Extension of delivery times

The manufacturer posted record results in the first quarter, driven by very strong demand for its electric vehicles. But the company is struggling to meet demand and delivery times continue to lengthen due to supply difficulties and the suspension of production at its Shanghai factory for several weeks. You currently have to wait at least seven months for the Model 3, its most popular model.
