Freeport Student Finalist in National Doodle For Google Contest


FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) — Freeport School District student Amelia Winter is a finalist in Google’s national Doodle for Google contest. This competition is open to K-12 students nationwide, with only one design chosen for each state and category. Students are encouraged to create their own Google Doodle for a chance to feature it on Google.com.

Amelia represents Lincoln Country in the K-3rd grade category. Amelia’s fantastic drawing was selected from thousands of entries received this year. Students from Center Elementary School helped Amelia celebrate at a surprise assembly.

Her design, as seen above, is called “Golden Doodle” and is inspired by her dog. Amelia writes, “I take care of myself by surrounding myself with the love of my dog ​​Dasher. »


If she wins, Amelia’s drawing will be featured on the homepage of the website and she will win a $30,000 prize. Her school will also receive a $50,000 technology package for establishing and improving computer labs or implementing a technology program.
