Often criticized for its way of managing its users’ data, Google has added a section to its Play Store.

Better protecting user data is Google’s goal with its new section within its application store. Developers will now need to inform users about how they collect data, what types of information are collected, and who has access to it.

Thanks to this new section, users will also be able to know if the developers have assessed their security practices (according to a global standard) and if the applications comply with the confidentiality rules put in place by the Mountain View firm. Additional information about applications and their security practices will also be available to users, such as whether data collection is necessary or optional. For users like developers, displaying the data collected by an application, without additional context, is not enough. Users want to know for what purpose their data is collected and if the developer shares it with third parties, said Apple’s competitor. The new section is gradually deployed. The developers have until July 20 to provide the information requested by the American group.
