Google warns users of Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drawings about potentially malicious files

PARIS, April 29 (Benin News / EP) –

Google will start warning its Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings users when they open a potentially malicious file, as it already does in Drive.

On January 20, Google introduced warnings that alert Drive users if they encounter a potentially malicious file on their system. Now the company is looking to extend that protection beyond cloud storage.

The tech company announced on its blog that these warnings will also start appearing in Docs, Spreadsheets, Presentations, and Drawings files. This new feature will start rolling out over the next two weeks on the web version for all account types, personal and business accounts.

Google’s announcement comes after Wired in 2020 warned of a wave of scams using platforms such as Drive to share malicious files with users.

By clicking on the shared link, the user was redirected to a website asking him to enter his bank account number using a “phishing” technique.
