Injured in the abdominals, Rafael Nadal withdraws from the competition and will not participate in the semi-final of Wimbledon scheduled for Friday July 8 against Nick Kyrgios, learned franceinfo Thursday. “I have an abdominal tearexplained the Spaniard during a press conference. We discussed all day about the decision to take, but it makes no sense to play if I want to continue my career.”
“We are sad to see the adventure end like this”, tweets the official account of the tennis tournament. Rafael Nadal thus leaves Nick Kyrgios access without playing his first Grand Slam final.

The Spaniard had suffered an abdominal injury for a few days, but the injury worsened on Wednesday July 6 during his quarter-final against Taylor Fritz. Despite the embarrassment and the pain, Nadal prevailed. But after the match at a press conference, he was very concerned. The Mallorcan had tests this morning which revealed a seven millimeter abdominal tear. A lesion too large for Rafael Nadal to appear on the court.
However, Rafael Nadal hit the ball on Thursday afternoon at the Wimbledon training center, out of sight and cameras, just to see how his body would react if the pain and discomfort were bearable. She obviously wasn’t. Rather than aggravate this injury and compromise the rest of his season, Rafael Nadal preferred to give up.
The world number 4 will not succeed in the calendar Grand Slam. However, he was on schedule for the first time in his career, after his victories at the Australian Open and Roland-Garros.
