How Are Students Effectively Using Google Slides?

Find out how students are effectively using Google Slides to create presentations, take notes, improve vocabulary, and more.

Almost all good services require money and payment, but web gear featured through Google inside is available for free. This equipment includes Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Forms and Google Slides. They have proven to be staples in classrooms, homes and businesses around the world. Especially for instructors and students, Google Slides is one of the most exciting and versatile pieces of equipment offered.

Maybe you have heard of Google Slides and wondering how students can effectively use Google Slides or maybe you want to know what Google Slides are? In today’s article, you will learn what Google Slides are and the different ways Google Slides can be used effectively by students.


What is Google Slides?

You may be familiar with Microsoft PowerPoint, the software used to create and update slideshows. Google Slides is comparable without being hosted online and allows more than one human being to collaborate on the same presentation in real time. To understand the importance of Google Slides, here are some facts about it.

  • It’s free.
  • You can start with a clean report or use a predefined template.
  • It is accessible via web, cellular app (Android, iOS, Windows, BlackBerry) and as computing device software on Google’s Chrome OS as well.
  • PowerPoint documents can be imported into Google Slides and then edited.
  • Your Google Slides views can be exported as a PowerPoint, PDF, JPEG, PNG, etc. file.
  • Images and videos can be delivered to presentations. Since April 2019, audio can also be introduced
  • There are many sharing selections for your Google Slides presentation. It can be private, you can share it with chosen people or you can share it publicly on the web. You can choose whether or not humans can view or edit your presentation.
  • If you and others are in a Google Slides presentation, you can chat, leave comments, and work on the same presentation simultaneously.
  • Your work is automatically saved as you work on your presentation.
  • You can display your slides inside the platform (View > Present). You can plug your laptop into a display or use Chromecast or AirPlay to show a live audience. You can also view using Google Hangouts.
  • You can add real-time computerized captions when presenting in Google Slides.
  • There are many accessible add-ons for Google Slides. These are third-party developer tools to add extra performance to Google Slides. Most of the add-ons are free, but some have premium paid versions.
  • Google Slides screens can be embedded in blogs and websites.

There are many approaches to using Google Slides in a classroom, however, if you’re just starting out, I’d suggest some templates. Why models? With a template, you manipulate what the business will need while you lay out the layout. Either way, when you’re in the conference room, your selected template, font preferences, layout, and design are all set. Additionally, Google slides have diagram templates so students can use them in assignments and complete tasks faster.

As a caveat, I use PowerPoint to create all the templates I include in Google Slides because it’s less difficult that way. With Google Slides, it doesn’t matter how many colors you use, because it’s all digital content that doesn’t want to be printed on a shadow printer!

Use Google Slides to improve vocabulary learning

Another effective way to use Google Slides is to use and add vocabulary to enhance your vocabulary learning. In addition, 1/3 students had learned about Greek and Latin roots by using vocabulary and learning them. You can add and introduce new vocabulary to students and enhance your vocabulary book by using templates and using them as a medium for learning.

For example, with the model, students had to provide root means, instance words, locate a nice picture, and write an example sentence. Google Slides is great for discovering images. All the searcher has to do is insert an image and then select search. It will allow the student to search for reusable images. There are a lot of amazing discussions generated by students about how the picture helps in the perception of the root word.

Use Google Slides to take notes

Basic middle school students need to analyze to take notes. Taking notes strengthens muscle memory while forcing our minds to prioritize only vital information. Elementary students tend to simply reproduce entire sentences from a long list. Sentences that are not prepared through subtopics or that are too long to deliver only the essentials.

This is why the note-taking model helps the researcher focus their attention on finding concise applicable documents. The color coding with the sticky notes further indicates that the records are organized into subtopics. In the example above, my students learned about the mission era in California. They used the model to highlight particular facts to encompass, such as dates, people, places, and words needed. Through the use of the bullet tool, phrases or quick phrases were used.

On the back of the post-it, students should write sentences or longer sentences about the activities needed or the records they wanted to remember.

So they took notes. Now what? The notes can now be used to write explanatory textual content on the topic, since the recordings have already been prepared using subtopics. Or they can use the notes to find out about an exam. Since Google Slides is accessible anytime and anywhere, students can log in from anywhere to study.

More ways to use Google Slides in elementary grades

As you’ve probably figured out from the help of now, Google Slides can be used in many ways with foundational students. Have you ever thought about using Interactive Digital Notebooks? I started developing these digital notebooks to accompany our social studies, science, and math content. Since their development, I have sophisticated them with many facets that use scientific enhancements to facilitate learning.

In one of the first digital notebooks, students used their textbooks and different print media to acquire information. But now, with the help of digital networks and Google Slides, students can share work photos, create a photo slideshow with PowerPoint, create a self-guided lesson, create pictures, notes, and many other useful projects you can find out after using it.

Once they had all the required facts, they wrote their text content on paper. This was once taken through the review and modification process. When it was once equipped to post, they displayed it on the slide as shown above. They delivered photos and then had to hit the map.


Google Slides is a versatile way for teachers and students to create, collaborate, and present. You can do a lot with Google Slides beyond a standard oral presentation. Many teachers and students love to embed their Google Slides slideshow into a blog post or page. Sharing the work with a real target audience offers many benefits.
