Recruited in January 2020 in Salzburg, the Japanese, Takumi Minamino is already leaving the Reds to join AS Monaco. Jürgen Klopp, the German coach of Liverpool has returned for Sky Sports on the rather mixed feelings that observers may have about Takumi Minamino’s move to the Reds, believing for his part that the former Salzburg player had been able to make his contribution: “I’m sure there are some who think it didn’t quite work out. Those who think that are wrong. I don’t accept it.”

“His contribution far exceeds the opportunities we were able to give him. He made us better every day he was with us – not just in the games he played but in every training session. A perfect attitude, a winning mentality. His performances and his goals are the reason why we had to redecorate the Wall of Champions so often. His accomplishments here will stand the test of time.” In two and a half years at Liverpool (including 6 months on loan at Southampton), the Japanese international has played 53 games for 14 goals and 3 assists.
