Ligue 1: winner in Lorient, OM take second place in Monaco

The game: 0-3

The infernal pace of Monaco condemned OM, traveling to the field of Lorient, to avoid a misstep. Winner (3-0) thanks, in particular, to a doubly decisive Bamba Dieng, the Marseille club regained its second place in Ligue 1 at the expense, precisely of ASM, again pushed back to three points.

One week away from traveling to Rennes to play a fundamental match there in their quest for direct qualification in the Champions League, the Marseillais can savor this success initiated by an acrobatic recovery from outside the right succeeded by Dieng, who cut with brilliantly a cross from Ünder (0-1, 39th). On this action, Dreyer could not do anything, when he had illuminated his first period with two exceptional parades on heads from Gerson (22nd) and Dieng (26th). On this second occasion, the Merlus goalkeeper was supported by Morel, who pushed back a strike from Gueye in front of his line.

Bakambu, Caleta-Car, Dieng, Gerson: a cascade of injuries

Morel, on the other hand, by delaying the restart, was at fault in the opener for OM, rewarded with a largely controlled first period. Lacking accuracy in the transitions, the Hakes waited for additional time in the first period to be dangerous by Laporte, who missed a huge opportunity with a header from a corner (45th + 1).

On the restart, OM were quick to double the score, following a fine combination between Gerson and Luan Peres, who served Guendouzi. The former midfielder from Lorient quickly chained to deceive, from the left, Dreyer, much less decisive on this one (0-2, 48th). Launched on the rails of an easy victory, Marseille quickly went into management mode, against Lorient, boosted by a triple change on the hour mark.

But Dieng, fluid and decisive passer for Gerson, scorer from the left, has a little more enhanced his presence on the ground against Merlus (17th) powerless offensively and still under threat from Saint-Etienne because of their defeat. Except that, following this action, the two players went out on injury, just like Bakambu (16th) and Caleta-Car (53rd) previously. In addition, Amine Harit, hit in the foot, had to forfeit at the last moment. A week before his decisive trip to Rennes, the dolphin of PSG has therefore filled up with points and injuries. The two very antagonistic sides of the same success.

OM, which now has 39 points taken away from home in 2021-2022, will have the opportunity in Rennes (37th day) to equal its absolute record over a season: 42 points, in 2008-2009.

The player: Dieng, happy then unhappy

Entered early (16th) in place of Bakambu, touched, Bamba Dieng, nicely checked by Dreyer (26th), did not give up and was decisive on his second opportunity (39th), cutting with talent the service of Ünder. It is also the Senegalese international (22), now with 7 goals in Ligue 1 this season, who served Gerson on the 3-1 goal (67th), just before leaving on injury and being replaced by Luis Henrique. Dieng will have seen neither the beginning nor the end: the rest of the match will have been enough for him to make the difference.
