A few months after receiving a technical update allowing it to increase its autonomy, the Peugeot e-208 will benefit from another novelty. In this case the arrival of a less expensive and less energy-intensive Like finish.
By small touches. This is how the first-generation electric cars from the former PSA operate to increase their range. They who have to deal with a CMP architecture that is currently inefficient compared to the competition. Thus, after being entitled to a first technical update in 2022, the Peugeot e-208 is about to “scratch” a few more kilometers with a charge. This time, there is no question of a new gear ratio or a further lowered discharge threshold – which would put the battery in danger – but simply the addition to the catalog of a new finish. While it is currently starting in “Active”, the e-208 will be available, from August 19, in a Like finish, i.e. the entry level normally reserved for the PureTech 75. The information is not yet official but has leaked on the Worldscoop forum and seems to come from a reliable source. Especially since the screenshot released also reflects other developments in the range from October.
400 km in town for the Peugeot e-208 Like?
As for the electric 208, nothing is specified except “opening orders 19/08 e-208 Like 400 km”. Understand that thanks to more “light” equipment, the “emission-free” city car of the Lion will crunch even fewer electrons. It would thus aim for up to 400 km on a single charge. But this value is not an average, probably the one obtained on the city cycle of the WLTP protocol. This distance would therefore represent an increase of some 10% compared to a current Active variant (362 km in WLTP city). This progress will be obtained thanks to smaller rims, probably 15 inches, therefore causing less resistance for smaller tires. As well as a slew of equipment will be removed to save weight on this 208 “wattée”. In contrast, the e-208 Like may be entitled to more advanced digital instrumentation than that available as standard on the PureTech 75which notably includes needle counters and a 5-inch black and white multimedia screen.
By comparing our independent measurements and the figures announced by Peugeot, it will be necessary to count between 330 and 340 km of autonomy in town at the wheel of this e-208 Like. Which would bring it closer to, or even exceed, certain more capacious models such as a VW ID.3 equipped with its smaller battery (58 kWh, 335 km in town) or a Tesla Model 3 Standard (55 kWh, 318 km in town )). Which will however remain more efficient than the French on the highway since the e-208 does not even reach 200 km, still on our independent protocol. Finally, it remains to know the price applied by Peugeot, which could be around 32,500 €.
