Swiss students want to work at Google, but from home

Bad news for companies that do not offer the option of teleworking: 61% of Swiss students take it into account in their job search. In the IT field, being able to work from home is even the most important criterion for 80% of students. This is what emerges from a survey conducted by Universum. The employer branding agency surveyed 10,593 students enrolled in a Swiss university.

According to the results, the ideal work-from-home dosage would be two days in the office and three days at home. Those studying computer science or over the age of 26 would prefer to spend even less time in the office.

Digitec Galaxus goes up, Swisscom goes down

Which companies attract students the most? In Switzerland, Google remains at the top of the ranking of preferred employers in the eyes of computer science students. But also in the Business and Engineering/Natural Sciences branches. In IT, the tech giant has been at the top of this annual ranking since 2019. Microsoft and IBM have retained their second and third place. The fourth place is occupied by Digitec Galaxus. Last year, the online trader was listed in sixth place and in 2020, in ninth place.

Swisscom now occupies only eighth place. In 2021, the telco was still fourth. The SBB are also downgraded: two years ago the Swiss Federal Railways were still in 5th place, they are now in 9th place.

Across the labor market as a whole, many public sector employers have lost popularity this year, reports Universum. The United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) fell 11 places each.
