Tesla: Elon Musk’s humanoid robot ready in a few months?

Will Tesla’s humanoid robot see the light of day in the coming months? The question is on everyone’s lips after Elon Musk’s tweet on June 3. The billionaire has indeed declared that he is moving his “AI Day” event to September 30 (rather than August) in order to present his humanoid robot Optimus in a “functional” way. Right after, he said the event would be “epic”. First shown in August 2021, the humanoid robot is said to be able to perform everyday tasks, such as going shopping. Elon Musk had also declared that he would do what “humans do not have the faith to accomplish”.

Also called “Tesla Bot”, this robot must be designed with the same technology as the company’s semi-autonomous vehicles. “Tesla is probably the most important robotics company in the world because cars have semi-conscious robots on wheels, with an on-board computer dedicated to autonomous driving”, liked to say Elon Musk. Bloomberg recalls that, last August, Tesla had given more details on Optimus, a robot of 1.73 meters and weighing 57 kg. It could carry loads of up to 20 kg and will be controlled by artificial intelligence systems developed by Tesla. “In the future, physical work will be a choice,” said the boss of SpaceX.

Announcement effect?

It remains to be seen now if the robot will be released next September. Elon Musk is a regular at sensational statements, highlighting prototypes that never came to fruition. Numerama evokes a network of Superchargers, rocket trips in the city or the famous autonomous car. On May 23, Elon Musk again announced the release of Autopilot within a year. A new statement too, while the group is going through difficulties. On Friday, June 3, he announced that he wanted to reduce Tesla’s workforce by 10% in view of the economic outlook.
