As the world seems to be slowly coming back to life, China is maintaining strict measures to escape the Covid-19 pandemic. Lockdown measures in the country forced workers at the Tesla Giga Shanghai factory to confine themselves on site for several weeks. Today, the firm announces that they can finally go home.

Tesla has crammed thousands of employees into a former military camp in China. They were finally allowed out. Thus, more than 10,000 employees should be able to return home this month. However, nothing is certain yet. According to the latest news, seven areas in Shanghai are said to be locked down again to carry out mass tests. In the event of an increase in Covid-19 cases, new measures could be introduced in the city.

For now, it is not yet clear what this means for employees of the Tesla Giga Shanghai factory. If ever the government were to institute a city lockdown again, the electric car maker would need to ensure workers have better on-site amenities.

Remember that the Chinese market is important for Elon Musk’s company. According to reliable sources, the plant could produce more than 2,000 vehicles per day when running normally.
