Tesla’s Model Y arrives in France: what does this electric SUV cut out for Europe look like?

The first copies of the Tesla Y, the electric SUV of the American firm, should arrive in France in the coming days. A model that should appeal to European customers, and which will soon be produced in Germany.

Already in circulation in the United States and China, the Tesla model Y is coming to France. The delivery of the first SUVs from the American brand of electric vehicles should take place before the end of August. Only a few more days to wait, therefore, for French buyers who placed their order first. But what does the newcomer to the Tesla range look like, whose eccentric owner Elon Musk – who has just embarked on the design of a prototype humanoid robot – hopes will conquer Europe?

A small SUV that sticks well to the European market

According to the specialized site Digitalwho had the opportunity to approach the vehicle in the brand’s Parisian concept store, the Y model takes up the basics of the 3 model. But it gains in length (+5.58 cm), in width (7.11 cm) and ground clearance (+1.52 cm).

Enough to give it the look of a small SUV, a rapidly growing segment in the European automotive market. Inside, there is the large 15-inch screen located in the middle of the dashboard, which serves as the vehicle’s control center. It is completed by two small knobs located on either side of the steering wheel.

What price for the new Tesla Y?

On its website, Tesla France indicates that orders placed in August will be honored from September. To do this, you will have to pay just under 60,000 euros for the High Autonomy version (507 km of autonomy announced) and nearly 67,000 euros for the performance version (480 km of autonomy announced). At this price, you could well get behind the wheel of a vehicle built and assembled in Europe. In theory.

A model soon produced in Germany?

Because the factory that the brand has decided to set up in Germany, the Gigafactory in Berlin-Brandenburg, has been delayed in its construction. “We’re looking forward to getting approval to make the first cars, maybe in October if we’re lucky,” Elon Musk, now the world’s richest man, told Reuters. The first Y models that will arrive in France will therefore travel from China, where production has been temporarily switched over, or from the parent factory located in the United States.
