- Thales today announced the creation of S3NS, a French company based in Paris, fully controlled by the Group. The president of S3NS is Walter Cappilati and its managing director Cyprien Falque. The creation of S3NS follows the establishment of a strategic partnership with Google Cloud announced at the beginning of October 2021.
- The mission of S3NS is to help public and private organizations in France to benefit from the power of the Google Cloud Platform (GCP), while protecting their sensitive data in compliance with the criteria of the National Security Systems Agency. information (ANSSI).
- Starting today, S3NS is releasing “Local Controls with S3NS”, a solution that complements Google Cloud Platform’s standard high security and performance specifications with guarantees on data localization and localized support, as well as additional security, including data access controlled by encryption powered by S3NS. This offer allows organizations to begin their migration to the French “Trusted Cloud” now.
- S3NS currently has several dozen employees and is accelerating its drive to recruit talent in order to achieve corporate goals. S3NS is already working with integrators and software partners to provide its customers with a wide range of services and solutions.
The new company, majority-owned and controlled by Thales, is subject to French law and follows the October 2021 announcement of a partnership between Thales and Google Cloud to jointly develop a Trusted Cloud offering in line with local standards. Thales and Google Cloud are committed to helping businesses and public institutions innovate and accelerate their digital transformation in ways that deliver autonomy, compliant sovereignty, and the greatest possible benefits for their customers and users.
Respond to the French “Cloud of trust”
S3NS will offer from the second half of 2024 its “trusted cloud” offer which will eventually combine full performance, services and applications of Google Cloud technology while allowing protection against extraterritorial foreign laws and in compliance with the requirements of the “Trusted Cloud” label. of the Information Systems Security Agency (ANSSI) as part of the French State strategy. S3NS will directly operate three data centers to ensure localization of data and workloads in France. Data center availability and technical support will already be available this year and the recruitment of engineers who will operate the “Trusted Cloud” will begin.
A first milestone with an offer already available
The first offering from S3NS is “Local Control with S3NS”, which will provide Google Cloud customers in France with continuous high performance in the public cloud, with additional capabilities to locate customer data in France or Europe, as needed or preferred. Customers may restrict access to data for administrative service and technical support to European Union sites only. Cryptographic control of data access can be achieved with management of external encryption keys from S3NS. This first offering brings compliance with additional automation to simplify operations, as well as additional auditability and transparency to increase customer confidence in cloud operations.
Partners already engaged
To best support its customers in this transition to the “Trusted Cloud”, S3NS is finalizing specific partnership agreements with various players in the growing digital ecosystem in France. Partners will be able to support S3NS customers in their cloud and digital sovereignty strategy as they securely migrate and operate their workloads and applications using S3NS and other managed services.
