After Sony, BMW and Mercedes, it’s now Tesla’s turn to surprise us at this edition of CES.
CES in Las Vegas is full of surprises, and every year it’s difficult to predict in advance what will make the headlines during this special week. But in this 2022 edition, one thing is certain, the automotive world has taken the lion’s share. After Sony, BMW and Mercedes, it’s Tesla’s turn, through the Our Next Energy (ONE) brand, to get people talking about its models in the aisles of the show.
A few days ago, the German brand with the star, Mercedes-Benz, had already managed to surprise the world of electric cars by offering the Vision EQXX. This concept did not seem to have anything surprising on paper, but it is on the length that it stands out. Indeed, Mercedes has worked hard to produce a car, capable of doing more than 1000 km on a single charge.
Tesla and ONE very close to 1500 kilometers
A feat that could well have had its place in the Guinness Book of Records, only Tesla and ONE decided otherwise. Indeed, only a few days after the masterful presentation of the historic German manufacturer, it was its young Texan competitor who came to pull the rug out from under it.
Tesla indeed arrived in Vegas with a very original Model S Plaid. The latter embeds the very latest battery from Our Next Energy, 203.7 kWh. Suffice to say that with such a capacity, the autonomy of the car is increased tenfold.
As shown in the video above, Tesla’s car is capable of passing the 1200 kilometer mark, all on a single charge. Another test, this time carried out on a test bench at a constant speed, made it possible to cross the bar of 1,400 kilometers covered. A real feat for Our Next Energy which can be explained by real in-depth R&D work.
A state-of-the-art alloy for an inexhaustible battery
According to the brand, this new battery is made up of a mixture of Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese cathodes and a graphite anode. These state-of-the-art components allow the car to easily exceed the 1,000 kilometer range mark, but also to improve the charging time.
If the latter is still very long, which is logical given the capacity of the battery, ONE engineers hope to be able to reduce it as much as possible in the coming years. Autonomy and recharging time are the two biggest black points of the electric automobile for it to succeed in establishing itself with the general public.
