A Tesla Model S Plaid has just reached the speed of 348 km / h, thanks to a simple unclamping of the maximum speed operated by the Canadian company Ingenext.
When it was released, the Tesla Model S Plaid did not fail to make a lot of ink flow. And for good reason, it is simply the most powerful version of the rangedisplaying a power exceeding 1,000 horsepower and achieving 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds.
When it was revealed, the electric sedan also promised to be able to reach a speed of 322 km / h, which is also specified on the French configurator. However, following the first deliveries in recent weeks in the United States, it could not exceed 262 km / h, as recalled Electrek.
A new record at 348 km/h
As our colleagues point out, Tesla had unveiled a little earlier in the year a new Track mode for his Plaid, allowing him in particular to increase his maximum speed to bring it to 282 km/h. That’s good, but it’s still a long way from Elon Musk’s original promise. Nothing has been said about the reason that prevents the Model S from reaching 322 km / h, but it could in particular be linked to the brakes, despite the arrival of a 20,000 dollar option allowing you to opt for a carbon-ceramic system.
However, now the sedan has finally managed to keep its promise, when it was finally able to beat its own record and reach or even exceed its maximum speed. And this time, it’s not thanks to Elon Musk. Indeed, it is the independent Quebec company Ingenext which achieved this performance, by making some modifications to the car. Indeed, the firm is specialized in the marketing of modules allowing to unlock certain functionalities on vehicles of the Californian brand. It is thus possible to increase the power of a Model 3 Long Range or to activate Drift mode on a non-Performance version.
Soon available to customers?
This performance was achieved at the Trois-Rivières airfield in Quebec, after Ingenext teams had made previous attempts in other locations, ultimately not offering enough space for the sedan to reach its maximum speed. But that’s not all, because in addition to achieving this performance, the car also exceeded expectations, displaying 348 km/h on its counter.
A priori, the mechanics of the Tesla Model S have not been modified, only a module allowing to unleash its performance would have been added. The Canadians have also changed the brakes and tires, for more safety. If it is the only copy in the world equipped with this functionality, Ingenext plans to make it available for all customers who would like it. However, no date or price has yet been specified.
