Toulouse. Why an “exceptional” mosquito operation will take place in town tonight

The hunt for mosquitoes is open to the rue de Metz ! On the night of Tuesday August 30 to Wednesday August 31, 2022, a mosquito control operation will take place in this famous street in the city center of Toulouse.


A suspected case of dengue fever, chikungunya or Zika

This operation, requested by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Occitanie, will target the tiger mosquitoafter thatat least one suspected case of dengue, chikungunya or Zika has been identified in the area.

“This exceptional preventive treatment is essential for your protection, in order to avoid the establishment of a local chain of transmission of these diseases.”

The operation should take almost an hour and will take place between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m..

A 4×4 will spray pyrethroid insecticide. “The treatment machines are very noisy”, warns the ARS in an information note taped to one of the signs on rue de Metz.

You will have to close the windows

During spraying, several recommendations should be followed in order to “prevent possible inconveniences”.

For example, it is strongly recommended to close the windows overlooking the public road during the passage of the treatment machine but also one hour after the intervention. The ARS also calls for bring in laundry, toys and food that may be outsideduring the passage of the treatment vehicle.

If unusual symptoms appear, during or after the mosquito eradication operation, contact your doctor or the toxicovigilance center (CAPTV) on 05 61 77 74 47.

Contacted by Toulouse News, the town hall of the Pink City explains that this operation is “classic” when a suspected case of dengue fever, chikungunya or Zika is identified. Also requested, the ARS has not yet responded to our requests.
