Vueling accepts cryptocurrencies as a means of payment
The low cost airline, Vueling, will accept cryptocurrencies as a new means of payment for the purchase of plane tickets.
In this approach, the Spanish company partners with BitPay which is one of the world’s largest providers of Bitcoin (BTC) and cryptocurrency payment services.
As part of this partnership, Jesús Monzó, Strategic Director at Vueling, says:
“With this agreement, Vueling once again reaffirms its position as a digital airline. We are very happy to have found in BitPay the best partner to offer our customers the possibility of transacting with cryptocurrencies with the greatest security and reliability. »
Also, Vueling will use technology from the Universal Air Travel Plan (UATP) – which is a payment system for the airline industry – for the integration of this service.
Moreover, the latter will be set up by the company at the beginning of 2023on its website, for individuals only.
The choice of payment can be done among 13 cryptocurrencies, including: Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Shiba Inu (SHIB), and Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) . Rachel Morowitz, SVP Partner Processing, at UATP added:
“Offering cryptocurrencies as a form of payment to the buying public is a necessity in this digital era of payments. UATP and BitPay have partnered to bring this option to the airline industry. In addition, this service responds to the growing demand from Vueling customers to pay with cryptocurrencies. »
Thus, Vueling is taking the initiative and taking the lead in innovating in its payment services.

For some time, acceptance of cryptocurrencies has increased with luxury brands and more broadly, retailers.
Indeed, a study, published on June 9, by Deloitte and Paypal, affirms that 75% of US merchants would consider accepting cryptocurrencies as payment within the next 2 years.
If demand from the consumer side begins to become significant, it is likely that this means of payment is becoming widespread in the years to come.
